Lasting solutions

Voluntary arrangements are less likely to break down than arrangements imposed by court, and also, unsurprisingly, are more likely to be considered satisfactory by family members. Couples are more likely to engage with one another if they are choosing to explore their options together, and are more likely to feel a personal commitment to the outcome of a voluntary process than to an imposed solution.

Mediation is a process that focuses on the future while acknowledging the past. Mediators work with couples to examine their unique problems and issues, focusing always on helping them to identify their own tailor-made solution, rather than on the problems themselves.

'Focus 90% of your time on solutions and only 10% of your time on problems.'
